THE WORLD IS A MIRROR IN WHICH YOU SEE YOUR SELF
"You don't know who you are because you have never gone beyond the stories in your head of who you think you are."
It is common for us to look out at the world and not like what we see. We mistakenly think that the picture we are looking at has nothing to do with us. What we don't realise is what we see on the outside is merely a reflection of our internal dynamics and beliefs. We are only capable of seeing what is part of our own internal mental blueprint - this is the law of seeing.
"People hate me" stems from one's own inner hatred.
"The world is full of untrustworthy and suspicious characters" is a symptom of mistrust within you. You probably have difficulty trusting your own sense of judgement.
"People are very sweet and kind" mirrors your innocence and light, and a willingness to help others.
"I see good in everything, even adversity" shows your alchemical ability to transform negative situations into positive ones.
Your world without is simply a mirror of your world within. If you have a pessimistic nature, you will tend to have a negative take on things. This takes away the benevolence from what you see; your view will tend to be a dark one rather than one that is bright and cheerful.
Your inner world is the cause, and your outer experience the effect. To change the effect, you must attend to the cause. Your inner world is a
subjective world that consists of a whole matrix of thought patterns. We know them as beliefs. Every thought is a cause that manifests an effect. This is obvious when you consider how a thought can change the way you feel in a split second. For this reason, it is absolutely essential that you manage your thoughts so as to bring forth only desirable conditions for yourself.
Most people try to change the effects by working with the effects. This is futile as you are only swapping one form of distress for another.
To remove the seeming affliction, you must remove the cause, and this cause can only be found within. Understanding this relationship between your inner world and your perceived outer reality will show you where your spiritual work needs to begin with yourself. When you have a good understanding of this immutable law, you will no longer be troubled by outer circumstances. You will hurry back into your inner domain and align whatever thoughts or beliefs you have with joy and peace.
We need this mirror because it is difficult for us to see ourselves objectively. Living in our own skin and looking out of our eyes, the 'I' that we believe we are is often too caught up with its make-believe identity to be able to see our internal patterns clearly. This is why having the world
as a mirror is useful. If you don't see a beautiful world, then seek to find that beauty within. Then look up again, and you will notice the loveliness in an ordinary rock, a rainbow or even a dull and gloomy day. If you tend to notice war and violence, then look inside and see where it is that you are at war with yourself or with others. We need to realise that guilt and criticism are themselves a form of violence.
